How to Turn Old t-shirts into Yarn

How to make your old t-shirts into yarn. Even whine you’re careful not to bring any clothes you don’t absolutely love or need into your home, eventually, you are probably going to have to say goodbye to some of them. With the exception of underwear, I’ve always either donated or swapped clothes I can no longer wear or no longer need, or, if they’re too badly stained or beyond repair, turned them into rags. But lately, I’ve found a new use for my old t-shirts: crocheting them into a bed for my cats.

Want to save your old shirts from the landfill and make your own t-shirt yarn? Check out the quick step-by-step video tutorial I’ve put together:

1. Cut a straight line just below the sleeves.

2. Cut open the bottom seam for maximum yarn .

3. Turn the t-shirt body sideways.

4. Fold bottom seam up to about an inch from top seam.

5. Cut half inch wide strips through the lower seam, leaving the upper seam connected.

6. Open the connected seam and make diagonal cuts to connect the strips.

7. Gently pull sections of the resulting length of fabric to create the yarn.

8. Ball the yarn and use it in your next project!
